Diencephalon (core of the brain)

 

 

It has 4 parts:

 

1. Thalamus: oval/football shaped
2. Hypothalamus: the triangular shape below the thalamus
   1. Infindumbulm: a narrow part coming off of the hypothalamus
   2. Pituitary: the end of the infindumulum off of the hypothalamus
3. Epithalamus: pineal gland, it sits on top of the thalamus and curves down
4. Subthalamus: the nucleus (cluster of neurons in the CNS), contains the cell bodies, right under and posterior to the thalamus
